Our Background & Goal
Latent Ventures was formed to provide specialist corporate services to Australian early stage business ventures and to take advantage of the emerging Asian venture capital market.
Partners
Dr Kim Elms
Dr Elms has a PhD in Computer Science from QUT, Australia, and a Bachelor of Business (with Distinction) from the University of Southern Queensland.
Kim has extensive experience in business strategy and technology delivery both in corporate organisations and start-ups. He has years of experience in foundation technology research and development that has led to patent protection and international vendor product innovation activities. His strengths include development of international collaborative projects that deliver synergies and value for many corporations from diverse industries.
Duncan Unwin
Duncan has a Masters in Information Systems and is a Senior Associate of FINSIA.
Duncan applies his decades of experience in business and market strategy, product management, organisational change and lean theory to help startups thrive and grow, as well as engaging his network of extensive contacts to drive investor value and venture delivery.
Duncan is also a pro bono board member for a number of Not-for-Profit organisations.

Corporate Advisory
Latent Ventures provides a range of specialist corporate advisory services to innovative early stage Australian businesses seeking start-up or expansion capital. The advisory services include strategic corporate advice, planning and compliance documentation.
The strategic advice includes growth and expansion strategies, corporate structuring, enterprise architecture and capital raising strategies. The corporate planning services include detailed business plans, financial forecasting, skills resourcing, technical services and systems analysis.
Funds Management
Latent Ventures provides Fund Management services through an Early Stage Venture Capital Limited Partnership (ESVCLP) that will be registered with Innovation Australia and become a member of AVCAL.
As the Fund Manager (General Partner) Latent Ventures will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Fund. Its responsibilities will include identifying, analyzing and conducting due diligence on all eligible venture capital investments, ensuring compliance with the approved investment plan and providing ongoing management services for the term of the Partnership.
The ESVCLP will be registered with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science under the Venture Capital Act 2002 and will be a member of the Australian Private Equity & Venture Capital Association Limited (AVCAL). The ESVCLP program is jointly managed by Innovation Australia with the support of AusIndustry and the Australian Taxation Office.
Capital Raising
Latent Ventures has established a unique position in the Asian Venture Capital market. Over the past five years there has been a significant trend developing with regard to different geographies of a start-up (target markets) and venture capital investment. The long held singular dominance by the United States of America is being challenged by the rapid ascent of cities in Asia. Notably, in the last five years Beijing and Shanghai accounted for over 27% of the world’s global increase in venture capital investment.
Latent Ventures is focused on providing seed and expansion capital for start-up businesses that are focused on product commercialisation within an early stage Australian venture that demonstrates high growth potential.
